About David Hykes

david-hykes-David Hykes is an award-winning singer, composer, visual artist and contemplative mentor.  After extensive trips studying sound practices of Tibet, Mongolia and the Middle East, he developed since 1975 a comprehensive approach to contemplative music called Harmonic Chant, exploring the relationship between sound, vibration and human consciousness.

He founded the Harmonic Choir in 1975 and has performed hundreds of concerts in twenty countries, as well as recorded 13 albums, including the now iconic “Hearing Solar Winds“.  His music has been widely featured in landmark films, including “Baraka”, “The Tree of Life” and “Meeting with Remarkable Men”, as well as by countless artists, dancers and performers all over the world.  Hykes’s work has been honored, amongst others, by UNESCO, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rockerfeller Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts.

A lifelong spiritual seeker and practitioner, he was a pupil of the Gurdjieff work for 20 years, and has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism for x years under teachers Tsoknyi Rinpoché and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoché.   Out of his wide experiences is has developed the Harmonic Presence meditative awareness practices, working with primordial awareness of sound and vibration and the resonances of silence, space, light and sensation.  He teaches his approach to groups in retreats, seminars, conferences and residencies all over the world as well as at his Retreat Center in Pommereau, France.
